Paul was "hard pressed," "perplexed," "persecuted," and "struck down." His litany of suffering (2 Corinthians 11:23-28) is almost beyond imagination. Still, he continued to do the very things that brought it on. What? Whatever it was had to be what mattered most in the world to him.
