Children’s Ministries
Bible classes are the heart of our children’s ministries. Faithful and diligent adults teach children of all ages each Sunday morning and Wednesday night throughout the year. The biblical call to pass on the faith to the next generation is the most important thing we do! Be sure to check out our blog that follows the kids through their Wednesday night Bible class!
Heartshapers is a ministry for newborns through age 4. During Sunday morning’s worship assembly, this ministry allows parents to be fully engaged in worship while their children are nurtured and cared for in an age-appropriate environment. It provides positive, joyful experiences through Bible stories, activities, and songs. Parents are provided with a pager for an anxiety-free worship experience.
Vacation Bible School is during the first full week of August each summer, and the Glen Allen Church is transformed into a Bible learning experience like no other. Each morning during the week for a couple of hours Glen Allen’s children, their friends, and local neighborhood children gather for singing, Bible stories, crafts, puppets, and other activities based around important themes from scripture. Past years have featured weeks devoted to creation, Joseph and his amazing life’s story, and the “I AM” saying of Jesus, just to name a few. It has always been hugely popular with children!
Kid’s Night happens periodically on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm, when the entire service is completely devoted to children. A brief children’s sermon is followed by special children’s songs, and a visit by “Animal,” everyone’s favorite, funny, and totally lovable puppet.
The Great Egg Hunt has become a not-to-miss Easter tradition. Glen Allen’s 18 acre campus is the perfect place for a cookout and picnic, followed by the search for those special eggs with treats inside. There’s always plenty of eggs to be found for all the kids!
The Haunted Forest is a 25 year tradition at the home of Carl and Gwen Childress. Past years have featured games with prizes, a challenging maze to wander, and a “haunted forest” in the woods behind the house, where Glen Allen teens try their best to good-naturedly spook the children. The evening is completed by more Halloween food and treats than an army could eat!
The Christmas Craft Party is a wonderful, fun evening on the first Friday night in December. Children move from station to station and create handmade Christmas items with the help of our adults. Many of these items become cherished family tree ornaments for years to follow. A bonfire, grilled hot dogs, hot chocolate, and Christmas cookies and cakes make the night especially memorable for families.
